I but read on Musichem.com that some people are using rubbing alcohol or even vodka to clean their valves. Seems kinda harsh

My questions on the thing:

I was wondering if anyone out at that place has tried this method for cleaning valves?

Are there whatever bad effects to the horn?

Do you use straight Vodka/Rubbing alcohol or dilute with water?

Thanks for your thoughts

Vince

If yous want to make clean your valves, follow these steps:

ane. cascade yourself a vodka & orange juice or a Bloody Mary or Caesar

two. so launder the valves with a dilute spray of Unproblematic Greenish (a great degreaser and cleaner) and rinse well with warm water

iii let the valves air dry earlier you insert them back in your horn.

Anything else would be a horrible waste matter of vodka!!

It was mentioned by a manufacture in one case(tin can remember off mitt who) that I could use rubbing alcohol to make clean my gold plating on a horn that I once owned. Then, I did and never had any adverse effects. It worked very well. Never tried it on valves. Never really considered information technology. I always soaked them in "Joy" or "Dawn" dishwashing liquid.

I suppose alcohol would practice a fair job of removing old oil rest, particularly parafin-based oils. And "yeah", information technology does a smashing task of cleaning up gilt plated finish... Peculiarly if it's a scratch or satin gold end. (Works on my Eclipse anyhow).

Edit: Oh.. and never mind Bill... he'southward been into the sacramental wine again. Merry Christmas & Happy New year, Pecker.

I use Q-Tips soaked in straight rubbing alcohol to clean the valve ports and wipe down the valves with a rag soaked in the stuff. I've done this now to five or 6 horns over the last twenty years and I've never had a problem. Why are you shocked? Did you lot know that if you lot are drastic y'all can use lighter fluid to lubricate your valves? I learned that trick from an Army bandsman. It won't hurt the valves to employ rubbing alcohol...

I've used "de-natured" alcohol on my valves without whatsoever harmful effects. It's a strong solvent so anything plastic information technology volition disolve, simply it volition clean your valves and inside valve casings great and it doesn't leave a residue. Notwithstanding, I usually apply any spray cleaning liquid with a grease cutter in it. That bottle of orange stuff works great.

I utilise inexpensive vodka to regularly wipe downward all the food training surfaces in our kitchen, besides as phone receivers, TV remotes, door/cabinet/refrigerator handles, taps, fridge shelving, auto steering wheel, etc... Keeps the nasty germs away without poisoning yourself.

I too used it to remove airheaded putty from our West Highland terrier's facial hair. Information technology was either that or WD40.

It'southward way safer than isopropyl or methyl alcohol, because 1 can safely ingest it, and the liver can break it downwardly more than easily than other chemical cleaners.

I'll accept to endeavour it on mouthpieces and in the leadpipe. Cut downwardly on the flora and animate being a flake....
